Description

Thai Lawyers for Human Rights was established two days following the coup in 2014 by a group of human rights lawyers and social activists. Initially an ad-hoc organization, TLHR aimed to provide legal and litigation assistance to individuals who had been summoned, arrested, and detained by the military as a result of the coup. Years later, we are a frontline organization promoting civic and political rights in Thailand.

There are two major components to our work:

1) Litigation assistance: TLHR’s litigation team provides free legal and litigation assistance to individuals affected by law enforcement which violates their basic civil and political rights. When possible, the team also files strategic cases to investigate authorities’ use of power, and to hold state personnel accountable for their actions.

2) Documentation and data collection: TLHR’s documentation team regularly monitors and documents human rights violations nationwide. The team disseminates the collected information to raise public awareness of these human rights violations, in the form of news updates, articles, reports, legal opinions, or public statements. We have also created an online database which is regularly updated with new facts and statistics.
