From the time of our establishment in October 1977 as the second women’s shelter to be founded in NSW, the Women’s Shelter Armidale has had a strong tradition of innovation, ingenuity and commitment to community.
Tonight in Armidale there are approximately 16 women and girls who are sleeping in our public parks, carparks, toilet blocks or on some random person’s couch. The paths that have led these women to homelessness are many and varied. For many of them, their goal is to escape abuse and violence.
The Women's Shelter Armidale works to empower women to access and maintain safe and stable homes. We support women to build independent lives, for themselves and their children- free from abuse and characterised by responsible self-determination. We are a specialist Domestic Violence Support Service providing high quality, client centred support- tailored to meet the unique needs and choices of each client.
