With the support and encouragement of Professor Andrew Gunstone - Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Reconciliation at Federation University, Roads to Reconciliation: Activating Multicultural Victoria (the initiative) was established by the National Centre for Reconciliation, Truth and Justice in the lead up to the 2023 referendum for a Voice to Parliament. Referendums create opportunities for our multicultural and multi-faith communities to reflect on the rights and opportunities available to them, to have an active and full life in Australia.
As citizens, we can shape and influence the future of the places we live in, while also actively reflecting on the truth and history of our home. This project both investigates, and actively responds to, the barriers that stand between multicultural and multi-faith communities and their participation in the life of their community, within a journey towards voice, truth and treaty.
Within a framework of coalition building and grassroot advocacy, with reconciliation, truth and justice as a core reference point, our efforts led by former Commissioners Maria Dimopolous AM and Shankar Kasynathan, are centered on building civic literacy and nurturing leadership in multicultural and multi-faith communities.
This project will reflect on the role of key referendums in the history of an Australia seeking reconciliation, truth and justice, while also actively leaning into the path to the 2023 referendum and beyond.
