Last year, 925 Karen children received a Giving Tree bag.
Who are the actors?
Since its creation 8 years ago, the Giving Tree project has grown every year with new partners! Today we can count on the support of schools, Bambi, LFIB, La Petite Ecole, Acacia, St Andrews, Smash club Tennis Bangkok, and many individuals.
What's in the bags?
These gifts offered by the parents of the student donors of these schools are the only ones that the Karen children receive. Their objective is to face the rigor of winter in the mountains with warm clothing and sanitary equipment, colored pencils, a book in Thai language, and to offer a gift to these children.
How is the project going?
The operation takes place in several stages, initially volunteers from the Terres Karens association who work on the development of isolated villages on the border with Burma identify the villages and children who could have the chance to receive the generous bags.
Subsequently, a team of volunteers in Bangkok takes over to ensure the distribution and collection of bags from donor families in conjunction with partner schools. The bags, once completed and collected, are checked and the packaging surrounding the objects is removed. This action is in fact necessary to avoid excessively polluting these regions which are not prepared to effectively sort their waste.
Finally, the bags are then distributed in boxes, sent to the villages and transported to Karen lands to finally be distributed during the major festivals celebrated throughout the month of December. The magic of Christmas then begins and the children's faces light up magnificently.
Naturally, this project cannot see the light of day without the support of partners, who, each at their own level, contribute to make it possible. A huge thank you to United Relocations which since the beginning of this adventure has provided the boxes, more than 150 boxes this year, and PRECISION who this year financed the 3 Blue Jade buses and drivers.
