Description
The Zonta Club of Brisbane East Inc was chartered as a Club of Zonta International on 13 March 1989.
Our Club members are women varying in age from their 20's through to their 80's with experience in business and the professions.
Zonta International's mission is to "Build a Better World for Women and Girls" and we seek this through our local and international service projects. Our Club fundraises for our local service projects which are:
Providing a scholarship over three years to assist a young woman exiting Grade 12 at both Balmoral and Yeronga State High Schools to encourage them to continue with tertiary education;
Supporting a women's refuge for victims of family and domestic violence; Sponsoring the printing of safety cards with contact numbers of services providing support to women experiencing domestic and family violence;
Training facilitators to conduct the recognised respectful relationship program LOVEBiTES in local high schools;
Making and distributing Zonta Breast Care cushions and drainage bags to assist women recovering from breast cancer surgery; and Assembly of Birthing Kits to provide clean birthing areas for women in developing countries.
We also advocate at the Federal, State and Local Government levels on issues relevant to women and girls and each year from 25 November through 10 December conduct a major worldwide campaign - Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women and Girls and Yes to Gender Equity"
At the International level the Club supports International scholarships for young women in leadership, business and STEM and international program such as Ending Child Marriage, Women and Climate Change.
The Club welcomes new members and the skills and knowledge they bring to the Club.
