Acton, ACT-based Yerrabi Yurwang Child & Family operates in Health and Human Services. A nonprofit, at yerrabi.org.au. It holds one address on record, all in Australia. It employs 6 people, on the record. It is listed alongside eight similar brands, mostly in Community Services.
Yerrabi Yurwang Child & Family Aboriginal Corporation was established in 2019, due to the high unmet health and wellbeing needs of the local Aboriginal Community residing in Canberra’s North-western Ngunnawal region.
Yerrabi Yurwang means to ‘walk strong’ and was bestowed upon the organisation by our esteemed and respected Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM, who was also a Founding Board Member of Yerrabi and our Inaugural Patron. Yerrabi operates on the traditional Homelands of the Ngunnawal People.
Yerrabi is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, which means it is owned and operated by Aboriginal People, for Aboriginal People, and so, we are committed to the principle of self-determination, whereby we seek to engage and empower Aboriginal People and their Families who utilise Yerrabi’s services.
Our main aim is, empowering generations of culturally strong, healthy & thriving, Aboriginal Children, Families and Communities.
Our concepts are important. Health to Aboriginal Peoples is a matter of determining all aspects of their life, including control over their physical environment, of dignity, of community self-esteem, and of justice.
It is not merely a matter of the provision of doctors, hospitals, medicines or the absence of disease and incapacity.
Our 4 Strategic Priorities for the next three years are:
1. Effective Governance & Cultural Practices. We will embed excellent governance practices within a culturally appropriate environment and provide high levels of accountability and transparency.
2. Delivering Quality Services. We will deliver highly accessible, culturally appropriate primary health care services to Aboriginal People and their Families, by ensuring that we address their needs across the lifespan.
3. Supporting Our Staff. We will recruit, retain, support and develop our staff.
4. Walking Together. We commit to working together in partnership with govt & key partners.
