- Women speak cyber was an initiative founded in Australia by Louisa Vogelenzang and Louisa Partridge in response to the lack of gender diversity in speakers at cyber security conferences in Australia.
Initially a LinkedIn group of women speakers was established, to ensure women cyber security speakers were visible to conference organisers. Women Speak Cyber then envolved into a movement to support, encourage and assist current and aspiring women speakers in cyber security.
- Pilot project #projectFriedman was established. The project saw 9 new women speakers become 'conference ready' through professional speaker coaching by Emily Edgeley. Project Friedman was co-founded with the Australian Women's in Security Network and was supported by generous sponsorship from the cybersecurity industry and federal government.
- Women Speak Cyber officially became a social enterprise with sponsorship from the Australian Federal Government for further programs. Project Friedman was a finalist in The Women In Security Awards 'Project of the Year'.
to 2022 - Women Speak Cyber programs delivered a 2nd round of our 'Project Friedman' public speaking coaching program for 1st time conference speakers, a 12 part podcast series ' Women Speak Cyber' that provided tools and inspirational stories for aspiring women speakers in cyber security, as well as a 'Presenter Polish' speaker coaching program, elevating existing women cybersecurity speakers
- Women Speak Cyber merged our funding and programs under AWSN - Australian Women in Security Network, this decision was taken to ensure our programs can help even more women in cybersecurity to gain valuable public speaking skills by leveraging AWSN's reach and operational resources. We will continue to volunteer our time under the AWSN Banner to continue our mission to ensure equal representation of gender, in the voices of the cybersecurity industry.
