Founded by Jillian Carson-Jackson and Jeanine Drummond, the initiative came from bouncing ideas between each other on what NI Australia could do to further support the theme of IMO's 2019 World Maritime Day - "Empowering Women in Maritime Community". Understanding how important visible role models and connection is for women in highly male represented industry's. It was important to connect women, give them inspiration for career advancement, and education on what other roles are possible across all maritime sectors.
Women in Maritime continue to promote the work of women, as importantly as having a voice for all aspects of diversity, so as to include all groups who are under represented and develop truly inclusive workplace cultures.
