Description

Since 1978, WLAQ has been and continues to be, dedicated to promoting the interests of women in the legal profession in Queensland through advocacy, education, mentoring and networking.

As an association we provide opportunities for female practitioners to develop skills and create networks that may aid in their future professional advancement in the law. We encourage the growth of a corporate spirit among women across a range of professional bodies and recognise that the development of leaders is aided by mentoring, whether through a formal program as is offered by WLAQ or through ad-hoc relationships that are developed through networking opportunities. Integral to the recognition and advancement of women in the legal profession are a number of awards offered by WLAQ.

WLAQ recognises the need to promote and encourage gender diversity at upper and executive levels of the profession. As such, we will present educational programs that assist early and mid-career women lawyers to develop skills to enable them to make strategic and planned decisions about both profession and family life. In this way, we hope to promote and encourage decision making processes that will over time result in a greater pool of qualified and meritorious candidates from which upper and executive level positions may be filled.

Our past presidents and current membership is diverse. Members include women from across the legal profession including those members of the judiciary, Queensland Bar, private practice, community legal centres, government, in-house, academia and students. We invite you to join us and become part of the journey.
