The company was founded by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and Jim Charade in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. Investor Ron Joyce became involved in 1967. After Tim Horton died in 1974, Ron Joyce bought the Horton Family’s shares. He expanded the chain into one of the most successful food service chains in the world (a multi-billion-dollar franchise).
RBI (owner of Burger King & Popeye Chicken), which is majority-owned by Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital, agreed to purchase Tim Hortons for US$ 11.4 billion on August 26, 2014.
We Eat Company opened the first Tim Hortons outlet in Thailand in early 2020 and has now grown the network to over a dozen outlets throughout the Kingdom.
