Description

The Vinyl Council of Australia is the leading members-based organisation working to strengthen and advance the sustainability of the Australian PVC industry.

Partnering with similar organisations globally, we share knowledge and engage stakeholders across industry and government on the life cycle of PVC. Our aim is to show how vinyl products have a valuable role to play in a sustainable society through responsible manufacture, use and disposal of PVC.

Since 1998, our membership has grown to include manufacturers of vinyl resin, vinyl compounds, vinyl and recycled vinyl products and suppliers of additives and services to PVC product manufacturers.

Currently two programs are managed by the Vinyl Council of Australia, representing leadership in different aspects of sustainability. These are:

  • PVC Product Stewardship Program (PSP)

Established in 2002, the PSP is an ongoing, long-term voluntary undertaking by Australian PVC industry to recognise, and progressively address, all relevant environmental, health and safety issues along the PVC product life cycle within responsible deliverable timeframes. This approach enables the PVC value chain to be joint stewards of the safe and beneficial production, use and disposal of PVC products in Australia.

  • Best Environmental Practice PVC (BEP)

Our BEP PVC trademark is awarded to PVC products that meet stringent environmental criteria, developed by the Green Building Council of Australia. This accreditation mark for specific products can help specifiers to choose sustainable products.

Our successful PVC Recycling in Hospitals Program now operates in more than 200 hospitals throughout Australia and New Zealand. Recycling high quality medical grade PVC devices, this program gives a valuable raw material resource a ‘second life’ in new products.

As an association focused on sustainable development of the Australian PVC industry, we are proud of our achievements in greater industry engagement in the circular economy.
