Description
Unit Robotika Institut Teknologi Bandung (URO ITB) didirikan pada 19 Mei 2008. Pada awalnya, tiap Tim Robot Kontes Robot Indonesia/ Kontes Robot Cerdas Indonesia (KRI/KRCI) ITB bergerak secara terpisah, baik koordinasi maupun dalam penghimpunan dana untuk merancang robot. Hal ini tentu sangat memberatkan sebab tim harus merancang robot dan mencari dana untuk membiayai proses pembuatan robot. Didasarkan pada latar belakang tersebut, tiap tim robot ITB 2008 sepakat untuk melakukan koordinasi secara bersama untuk membentuk suatu wadah bersama yang selanjutnya disebut sebagai Unit Robotika ITB.
Tujuan utama URO ITB adalah sebagai berikut : mengakomodasi mahasiswa-mahasiswa yang berminat dalam dunia robotika, memberikan pelatihan-pelatihan robotik, serta mempersiapkan mahasiswa-mahasiswa yang akan bertanding di perlombaan robot baik berskala nasional maupun internasional.
Selain itu, URO ITB juga bertujuan untuk memacu pengembangan bidang keilmuan yang ada di ITB yang berkaitan dengan robotika seperti teknik mesin, teknik elektro, fisika teknik, fisika, teknik industri, teknik informatika, teknik penerbangan, dan kedepannya dapat memacu seluruh bidang keilmuan yang ada di ITB, terutama yang terkait dengan perkembangan dunia industri. Dengan demikian, diharapkan agar mahasiswa ITB dapat menjadi pionir dalam pengembangan teknologi robotika untuk kemajuan industri dan teknologi di Indonesia.
