Berawal dari perubahan kepemilikan STIE Mulia Persada pada tahun 2006, maka STIE Bakrie School of Management (BSM) pun berdiri pada tahun yang sama di bawah naungan Yayasan Pendidikan Bakrie (YPB).
Selanjutnya, dilandasi niat luhur untuk aktif dalam upaya mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan Rakyat Indonesia, pada Juli 2009 Yayasan Pendidikan Bakrie (YPB) menetapkan pendirian Universitas Bakrie (UB), menggantikan status BSM yang semula STIE menjadi Universitas dengan tambahan program studi baru berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Menteri Pendidikan Nasional Republik Indonesia, Nomor 102/D/0/2009. Pada tanggal 9 Agustus 2010, UB diresmikan oleh Menteri Pendidikan Nasional Republik Indonesia Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Mohammad Nuh, DEA yang ditandai sekaligus peresmian secara simbolik pembangunan kampus modern terpadu di kawasan sejuk Bogor, Jawa Barat.
Universitas Bakrie mengemban tugas dan tanggung jawab untuk mengembangkan sumber daya manusia unggulan, serta memosisikan diri sebagai Technopreneur University yang mampu menghasilkan wirausahawan berorientasi teknologi dengan semangat kemandirian yang inovatif dan kreatif.
Dengan dukungan Kelompok Usaha Bakrie, Universitas Bakrie menyadari sepenuhnya kemampuan yang dimilikinya untuk senantiasa mencapai cita-cita para pendiri Yayasan Pendidikan Bakrie dalam arti yang seluas-luasnya.
