Description

We’re working to stop corruption in the mining sector, before ground is even broken, to ensure the highest standards of governance in the mining sector.

Since 2016, Transparency International’s Accountable Mining Programme has collaborated across the global network to investigate the impact of corruption on the mining sector.

Using the Mining Awards Corruption Risk Assessment (MACRA) Tool, TI national chapters across 6 continents have identified and assessed corruption risks in mining approvals.

We aim to build a fairer, clearer, and cleaner mining sector by working collaboratively with governments, companies, civil society organisations, and communities.

Working with Transparency International national chapters from across the globe, the Programme is building foundations for accountable and transparent mining that benefits communities, and support social and economic development.

The Programme is:

Led by Transparency International Australia, acting as a global Centre of Expertise;

Put into practice by Transparency International national chapters and local stakeholders; Supported by the Transparency International Secretariat;

Funded by BHP Foundation and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
