Adoption is not a moment in time — it’s a lifelong emotional journey that begins at conception and echoes through every life stage. Yet for too long, the inner world of the adoptee has been minimised, misunderstood, or silenced.
We’re here to change that.
Founded by Karen Chaston, The Chaston Centre was created in the wake of deep personal loss — and a powerful calling to reimagine how we approach grief, healing, and emotional reconnection. After the sudden passing of her son Dan and her own transformative journey through loss, Karen became an international bestselling author (Demystifying Loss) and developed Beyond Loss programs that helped people around the world navigate life’s deepest challenges.
It was through this path that Karen was eventually called to revisit her reunion with her daughter Kimberley, whom she had placed for adoption at 16. Their co-created body of work — The Emotional Fingerprint of an Adoptee — emerged from that journey and now forms a core offering of the Centre.
Together, they developed The Eight Essential Lessons, a transformational exploration of adoption’s emotional landscape — from conception to reunion and beyond.
