Description
The OPERA (Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance) is a private eco-reserve dedicated to conservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and education. Founded in 1985 under the name Penguin Place, we are New Zealand's oldest private ecotourism operation. We sit on 150 acres of stunning landscape including coastline, dunes and forested areas along the epically beautiful Otago Peninsula. We offer penguin/wildlife and native bush tours for visitors, and each year, we care for hundreds of animals in need through our onsite rehabilitation centre. Our current focus is on yellow-eyed penguins (hoiho) and little penguins (kororā) that are sick, injured, or suffering from malnutrition. Our role is to restore them to good health so they can return to the wild.
