The Hawthorne Club was established in 1997 by a group of rugby enthusiasts as a way of supporting the Rugby Union code in Newcastle and the Hunter.
The Club draws its name from the late Phillip Francis Hawthorne who was born in the region and played with the Australian Wallabies. Since its foundation, The Hawthorne Club has provided more than $1M in funds for the support of Rugby and its participants.
