Description

Located in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand, Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust is a charitable trust dedicated to championing Pacific arts and artists. Over almost forty years, Tautai has grown to become Aotearoa’s premiere Pacific arts organisation with a multidisciplinary focus. The Trust brings artists and the wider Tautai aiga together through a range of events and activities locally and globally. Our purpose is to grow a rich ecology of Pacific creative arts practice and provide leadership, support and unique opportunities for the Tagata Moana arts community.

Tautai was formed in the 1980s when leading Samoan artist Fatu Feu’u and his peers came together with a shared aspiration to support and promote Pacific visual artists, at a time when Pacific art was in the very early stages of recognition as a particular genre. Fatu formalised Tautai as a charitable trust in 1995 and continues to provide support and mentorship to Tautai and those we work with. In 2001 he was awarded a New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to the arts.

Tautai is supported by an amazing network of partners and funders. As a Toi Tōtara Haemata investment client, our main source of funding comes from Creative New Zealand. We also receive generous support from Foundation North. The team at digital media company No Six create our graphic design and media content for exhibition and projects and our Ngāue ‘Ofa volunteer team help run our public space and events.
