Description

Sydney Mathematical Research Institute (SMRI) is the first of its kind in Australia, drawing leading mathematical scientists from all over the world to do research with Australian collaborators, and engaging with the public.

Located at the University of Sydney’s Camperdown Campus in the historic Quadrangle, SMRI invites applications from mathematical researchers from all over the world. While in residency at SMRI, visiting mathematicians can focus on research and collaboration without the usual demands of teaching and administration. It is through undertaking collaborative mathematical sciences research that real creativity occurs.

SMRI was established in 2018 by inaugural Director Professor Geordie Williamson and inaugural Executive Director Anthony Henderson. Its establishment was made possible by generous philanthropic support.
