Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Balikpapan merupakan sekolah tinggi pertama di Balikpapan yang telah berdiri sejak tahuna 1983. Pada tahun 2020 Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Balikpapan telah terakreditasi institiusi berpredikat "SANGAT BAIK" dan merupakan satu-satunya PTS yang berpredikat sangat baik di Kalimantan Timur.
Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Balikpapan saat ini tampil dengan paradigma baru sebagai School of Business and Entrepreneurship yang dalam proses pendidikan fokus pada profesionalisme dan kompetensi lulusan dalam karir bisnis dan wirausahawan yang sukses dalam dunia kerja dan dunia usaha.
Proses pendidikan akan berorientasi pada LINK and MATCH, yaitu memadukan antara kompetensi akademik dan perkembangan dinamis dunia praktis dan dunia pekerja yang dalam proses belajar mengajarnya akan melibatkan berbagai bidang bisnis: selain tenaga akademis berkualitas dan bereputasi dengan jenjang pendidikan S2, S3 dan Guru Besar.
Untuk mendorong persaingan belajar di antara mahasiswa dan mendorong peningkatan kualitas lulusan, akan ada kelas unggulan khusus dengan sistem degradasi dan promosi. Dimana mahasiswa terbaik dan berprestasi akan mendapatkan berbagai beasiswa belajar.
Selain itu akan bekerjasama dengan dunia Industri dan bisnis serta perguruan tinggi terkemuka dalam rangka pen ingkatan kualitas akademik dan aplikasi serta skill lulusan.
