The Ship for World Youth is a unique international youth exchange and leadership program, supported by the Government of Japan. Each year, the program provides youth from around the world the opportunity to come together to discuss common global issues, experience cultural exchange and join seminars and workshops conducted by experts and participants themselves. By broadening global views and strengthening the spirit of international cooperation, the program aims to cultivate the next generation of leaders who will lead and contribute to a globalised and diverse society.
Ship for World Youth Australia (SWY Australia) is an alumni organisation and registered charity, founded by past Australian participants of the SWY program.
SWY Australia has three main focuses –
- Supporting young Australians to participate in future SWY programs, including the distribution of information about the program, assisting with the participant selection process alongside the Japanese Embassy and providing training and support to new delegations
- Coordination of and participation in post-program activities, including local and international community services projects
- Fostering a well-connected network of past-Australian participants, providing opportunities to connect locally and internationally with each other and with projects
SWY Australia’s aim is to cultivate safe spaces where people can reflect on their cultural identity and throughout our work, we promote reconciliation, tolerance and mutual respect within Australian society. SWY Australia members are active community members who hold a range of responsibilities and roles; as a member of SWY Australia, they increase their capacity and confidence to lead.
