Description
The Shakti journey began in 2014 after a chance encounter with the inventor of The Shakti Mat, Swedish Yogi Om Mokshananda. The now Shakti Mat Directors, George & Jon, fell in love with the product and its alignment with ethical, and effective self-care, leaving their graduate jobs to commit full time to the new endeavour. Now, the pair run Shakti alongside a team of 10 at their headquarters in Christchurch, NZ and distribute worldwide.
The heart of Shakti production is in a gratitude workshop in the holy city of Varanasi, India. The word ‘Shakti’ in Sanskrit is a feminine principle, and symbolises empowerment, abundance and change. It is with these principles the workshop is run. Team Shakti aims to care for the women who work there to give them choice, empowerment and a sense of community, as well as ongoing support for them and their families.
