Sekolah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Pekan was established on a site of 72 acres and 20.8 hectares close to Bandar Diraja Pekan, Pahang Darul Makmur. The existence of this school is from the inspiration of His Majesty (Almarhum) Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’azzam Shah, Sultan of the state of Pahang Darul Makmur.
As the 31st boarding school in Malaysia, this school has unique building characteristics and is different from other similar schools. All physical facilities for curriculum and co-curriculum learning are provided. The laying of the foundation stone of this school was completed by His Majesty the Sultan of Pahang. March 1st, 1989 was the start date of this school's administration under the Ministry of Education Malaysia, when the first principal and deputy arrived on duty. They are Tuan Haji Mohd Radzi bin Abdul Rahim and Tuan Haji Ibrahim Haji Ahmad with the help of two education clerks. On April 17th, 1989, the first group of teachers working at this school reported themselves. The school logo, bus color, side cloth pattern and the name of the school has been approved by the Sultan of Pahang. His Majesty has also agreed to visit the project site and the school and was presented with a progress briefing.
The building handover ceremony by the wholesaler through JKR to the Ministry of Education Malaysia. On August 1st, 1989 the first student batch of Sekolah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Pekan consisting of 212 Form 4 students, and 201 Form 1 boys and girls registered themselves and started life at the SHAH Pekan campus. On October 21st, 1989 Sekolah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah was officially opened by His Majesty the Sultan of Pahang in a ceremony full of excitement.
