SEMMA is a membership-based organisation that represents the interests of manufacturing businesses in the South East Melbourne region. Formed in 2003 to ensure the voice of the rail manufacturing supply chain was heard at all government levels, we saved an industry sector and hundreds of local jobs.
Generating $89b in gross regional product, our region has 3,801 manufacturing businesses employing 75,406 people. This equates to 27% of Victoria’s manufacturing workforce and produces 35% of the state’s total manufacturing output. *Data from Deloitte Report: GSEM manufacturing powerhouse 2025.
With 22 years’ experience of advocating as the voice for manufacturers, our efforts ensure manufacturing has a seat at the table of decision makers. But change is needed if manufacturing is to grow and succeed.
SEMMA’s overarching policy objective is to enable economic growth in manufacturing from (currently) 5.9% GDP to 10% GDP by 2030.
