Description
Tsunami Aceh 2004 menjadi titik balik dunia kerelawanan di Indonesia. Tragedi kemanusiaan yang merenggut ratusan ribu korban tersebut membangkitkan nurani masyarakat Indonesia untuk sama-sama bergerak atas nama kemanusiaan. Sejak saat itulah banyak komunitas kerelawanan tumbuh bak jamur di musim hujan.
Pengalaman lebih dari 20 tahun di dunia kemanusiaan menjadikan para pendiri Sekolah Relawan sadar, bahwa sebagian besar relawan yang turun ke medan bencana masih hanya berbekal semangat. Belum banyak relawan yang memiliki keterampilan dan kapasitas, baik secara teknis maupun wawasan yang memadai saat melakukan aksi di medan bencana, sosial kemanusiaan, maupun pemberdayaan masyarakat.
Untuk itulah tepat tanggal 13 Januari 2013, Sekolah Relawan berdiri sebagai sebuah komunitas yang memiliki kegiatan berbagi pengetahuan dan wawasan terkait dunia kerelawnaan. Selanjutnya, pada 21 Januari 2016 Sekolah Relawan akhirnya resmi secara hukum menjadi sebuah yayasan kemanusiaan yang fokus terhadap edukasi kerelawanan dan didukung oleh 3 fokus program lainnya, yaitu program sosial kemanusiaan, program pemberdayaan masyarakat, dan program advokasi sebagai bagian dari aksi nyata kerelawanan.
