Description

Overview:

SAL-Check is a pioneering liver health screening and diagnostics solution in development at Griffith University, offering a world-first saliva-based diagnostic for the early detection of liver fibrosis. As liver disease continues to rise silently in millions worldwide, SAL-Check aims to fill a critical gap by delivering non-invasive, low-cost, and accessible screening — without the need for blood draws or specialist imaging.

Technology Origin:

Developed within a multidisciplinary research team led by Prof. Chamindie Punyadeera, SAL-Check is backed by world-class expertise in salivary diagnostics, with clinical partnerships and extensive validation work underway. The project has received significant competitive grant funding and is being translated through Griffith University’s research and commercialisation pipeline.

Current Status:

This is currently an active research and commercialisation project at Griffith University, progressing toward prototype development and clinical validation. SAL-Check has already generated early industry interest through global EOIs and partner engagement. Through the LuminaX accelerator program, we are testing the feasibility of establishing SAL-Check as a spinout company.

Spinout Model:

Subject to investor funding and licensing agreements with Griffith University, the project is intended to be spun out into a dedicated diagnostics company. The spinout will serve as a platform for saliva-based health diagnostics, with SAL-Check as its lead product targeting general population screening and specialist clinical pathways for liver disease.

We're currently seeking:

  • Seed investors aligned with healthtech/medtech
  • Strategic partners in diagnostics, pharmacy, and corporate health
  • Expressions of interest from collaborators and co-development partners
