Description
Saigon Children's Charity was established in 1992, we are registered in the UK but our work is exclusively in Vietnam. Our mission is to help disadvantaged Vietnamese children to get an education and a fairer start in life.
We believe that a measured amount of carefully targeted help from us can make all the difference. We believe that by focusing on the educational needs of the most disadvantaged children we are able to achieve positive change for them. We measure our results in the numbers of children going to school, graduating from school, going on to university and those finding decent jobs.
Since our inception we have followed certain guiding principles:
- We help only the children in greatest need.
- We foster independence and avoid creating dependency.
- We never replace the responsibility of parents, the authorities or the child.
Our key activities include:
- School Building Programme: building public schools (mainly kindergartens and primary schools) and improving existing ones.
- Getting Ready For Work Programme: supporting disadvantaged young adults aged 16-25 to receive free vocational training courses at different partner institutions in HCMC.
- Child Development Scholarship Programme: helping impoverished children stay in school by providing them with scholarships, soft skill training, and personal counselling.
- Special Needs Education Programme: providing early intervention for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, while simultaneously building capacity among parents and professionals and raising public awareness of Neurodiversity.
