Description

The Rainforest Conservation Foundation (RCF) is a not-for profit organisation located in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest with a reserve at 2274 Cape Tribulation Rd, Diwan, Queensland, Australia.

The two main activities of the RCF are our nursery and large-scale revegetation operation and the Student Engagement Centre.

We are innovating new methods to plant rainforest to overcome current bottlenecks. The RCF revegetates denuded land specialising in rainforest areas. We collect the seed from the site of planting ensuring biodiversity and restoration of the original ecosystem. Seeds are propagated at our nursery in the Daintree which currently has a capacity of 40,000 trees per year. Saplings are then used for planting in our restoration projects, some of them grown for up to 2 years prior to planting.

The other main RCF activity is that of is education and engagement. We host approx 300-700 students per year from all over Australia and the world on a day trip basis. They are taught about the rainforest, the reef, sustainability and the impacts their future actions may have on the world. They also collect seeds, propagate seedlings & then plant out small rainforest trees.

We primarily operate in the Wet Tropics region of North Queensland as this area has been identified as the 6th area in the world that has irreplaceable and outstanding biodiversity value to the planet and 2nd of all World Heritage listed sites for its irreplaceable endemic species and threatened species. It's plain to see it's an area worth protecting for our future generations.

The Wet Tropics Management Authority have identified 50,000 hectares requiring reforestation in this area to preserve endemic species.

We have a goal to reforest 50,000 hectares by 2050 and we need your help to do this. 50 by 50. Together with your help we can leave the Wet Tropics region of Far North Queensland in a better state for future generations.
