Lawson is one of the biggest convenience store chains started from a milk factory owned by J.J Lawson in Ohio, United States. Lawson founded the factory in 1939, and in 1975 he successfully opened a branch in Sakurazuka Osaka, Japan.
Lawson then was bought by Dairy Mart, a large company focusing in convenience store and opened its first outlet in Okinawa, Japan in 1997.
From here, Lawson began to change its business model to become a grocery store, which was the forerunner of the convenience store we know today.
In Indonesia, Lawson first opened its branch in 2011 under PT Midi Utama Indonesia, Tbk (Alfa Group). The first outlet opened in Kemang area, South Jakarta.
