The Company started its business in coal mining and trading business under the name of PT Central Korporindo International. Established on 13 September 1999, the Company commenced its commercial operations in 2001.

The Company became a public company listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (now the Indonesia Stock Exchange) with the share code "CNKO" on November 21, 2001.

CNKO became one of the coal suppliers in Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) after the signing of long and medium term contracts in 2006. In addition, the Company also became Indonesia Power (IP) coal supplier.

In 2010, the name of the Company was changed to PT Exploitasi Energi Indonesia Tbk.

In order to achieve the Company's vision, during 2016 CNKO focuses on coal sales and efficiency improvements.
