PT Emdeki Utama Tbk (Perseroan) adalah perusahaan yang didirikan pada tahun 1981 oleh para pendiri group PT Metropolitan Development untuk memproduksi Kalsium Karbit (Calcium Carbide - CaC2) dengan tujuan substitusi impor yang pada waktu itu berasal dari negara-negara Afrika Selatan, Cina, Polandia dan Taiwan dengan rata-rata sejumlah 25.000 ton dengan nilai U$ 8,75 juta dollar per tahun dari tahun 1984 sampai dengan 1986. Dengan pabrik yang terletak diatas lahan 14 hektar di Driyorejo Gresik, PT Emdeki Utama Tbk memulai produksi percobaannya pada tanggal 10 Nopember 1987, disusul dengan produksi komersialnya dimulai pada tanggal 1 Pebruari 1988. Dalam kurun waktu dua tahun berikutnya telah memperoleh kepercayaan masyarakat secara penuh, sehingga sebagian besar kebutuhan karbit di Indonesia telah dipenuhi oleh produksi dari PT Emdeki Utama Tbk. Pada Tahun 2014 -2015 Perusahaan melakukan peremajaan mesin, sekaligus meningkatkan kapasitas produksi dari 25.000 ton/tahun menjadi 50.000 ton/tahun. Bahkan sebagian dari hasil produksinya sudah diekspor ke Jepang, India, Amerika Serikat dan lain-lain.
