Proxima strives to manage & provide sustainable food and feed for OUR tomorrow.
Founded in 2020, Proxima was born during a year that saw fires, a pandemic, protests and resounding division across the world. Through these events, tragic & terrible, the frustrated cries the masses screamed for action, and for individuals to take responsibility for our world that is bigger and greater than ourselves.
Many years ago an entomologist friend charged us with the idea of using insects as food and feed. Like many still do today, we shrugged them off. But after a challenging report by the World Health Organisation in 2013, critical self-reflection and an internal pressure for us as humans to take responsibility for our Earth and incite positive change, Proxima was formed.
By leveraging the amazing natural qualities of insects, Proxima provides sustainable waste management solutions, produces minimal impact animal food and stock feed, and aspires to deliver high quality, sustainable human protein sources.
The name Proxima is derived from the Latin word for “next” and “nearest”. Insect based sustainability and nutrition is the next way to challenge and the open western world’s eyes to the already exceptional practices of over 80% of countries in our global community. It is easily within reach – one of the nearest ways for an individual to combat a climate crisis at our doorstep. And it is in Latin because white, privileged, middle class boys (like us) should prioritise something greater than themselves (like others and the future world...) and so should you, so should your mates and so should we all.
