Losing a child at any time during pregnancy or beyond is one of the most devastating, confusing, lonely, and isolating experiences a parent can have. The impact of the loss is felt not only by parents but also by siblings, extended family, and the wider community.
Precious Wings was established in 2014 by founder Kerry Gordon after she experienced the loss of her precious boy Toby. “Instead of bringing home a beautiful newborn to his excited brother we carried home the shattered remains of our lives, with no idea how to piece them back together.”
Precious Wings is built on the foundation of 3 PILLARS OF SUPPORT:
FAMILY
- Creating final opportunities to make tangible memories, via memory boxes and miscarriage bags
- Peer support, providing understanding, connection and a physical safe space to visit
- Ongoing connection fostering a sense of comfort, hope, and ‘not being alone’
HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
- Providing tools and delivering education on:
o Memory Making o Caring for a child AND their family after death
COMMUNITY
- Building awareness and capacity
- Workplace, school/childcare, community education
- Opportunities for continual engagement and support
We currently support 59 hospitals, 14 major funeral homes, and community care services throughout Queensland. Between August 2023-2024, we gifted over 1,200 memory boxes and 800 miscarriage bags, touching more than 3 families a day.
Our mission is to guide parents through their grief, help them find meaning in their profound loss, and reduce isolation. We offer comfort and connection in their darkest moments.
We recognize that grief is a journey with no shortcuts - one that must be fully experienced and endured. Our role is not to rescue families from their pain but to stand with them as a compassionate ally, providing love, hope, and understanding.
