West Sumatera Polytechnic of Merchant Marine (Poltekpel Sumbar) is one of the maritime education and training institutions under the auspices of Human Resources Development Agency Of Transportation, which located in Padang Pariaman, West Sumatera province. Poltekpel Sumbar was inaugurated by the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia on February, 09 2018 based on Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number: PM.05 in 2018. Which was previously named BP3 Padang Pariaman (2016).
Poltekpel Sumbar has committed to be the preferred maritime education and training that produces graduates of highly skilled maritime workforce. Poltekpel Sumbar is one of the largest maritime college offering MARINE ENGINEERING, NAUTICAL SCIENCE, and SEA TRANSPORTATION degree programs which has fulfilled Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) 1978 and amandement regulated by International Maritime Organization (IMO).
According to regulation of the minister of transportation No: 5 of 2018, Poltekpel Sumbar has been regulated to organize vocational education programs, research, and community service in the field of marine and seafaring industries. The regulation was amended with the enactment of the Minister of Transportation Regulations No: PM. 49 of 2019 concerning the Organization and Work Procedure of the West Sumatera Polytechnic of Merchant Marine (Poltekpel Sumbar).
