Politeknik Teknologi Kimia Industri (PTKI) Medan adalah salah satu Perguruan Tinggi Milik Pemerintah di bawah naungan Kementerian Perindustrian Republik Indonesia. PTKI Medan didirikan pada tahun 1983 dengan bantuan Grant Aids dari Pemerintah Jepang (JICA) dengan areal seluas kurang lebih 8 Ha.

Dengan SK Menteri Perindustrian RI Nomor 467/M/SK/12/1986 tanggal 13 Desember 1986 dan Peraturan Menteri Perindustrian RI Nomor : 151/M-IND/PER/10/2009 tanggal 19 Oktober 2009 dibentuklah Statuta PTKI Medan.

Dengan jurusan studi :

Teknologi Kimia Industri (D3) dan Teknologi Mekanik Industri (D3). Dan berdasarkan Persetujuan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan No. 376/MPK.E/KL/2014 tanggal 23 April 2014 perihal Nomenklatur Pendidikan Teknologi Kimia Industri, maka PTKI Medan berubah nama menjadi Politeknik Teknologi Kimia Industri.
