Description
PEF is an independent NGO established in 2008 in Thailand. With our bottom-up and gender-sensitive approach, we address the needs of grassroots civil society networks in their efforts to advance human rights and democracy. We create sustainable tools for community organizations, grassroots coalitions, and civil society movements and connect them so that they can work effectively together for peace, social justice, human rights, and democracy.
PEF believes in a world where democracy and human rights can be achieved for all, and where local communities are respected and included in national, regional, and global policy-making processes. We believe in a society where everyone, and especially young people and people in situations of vulnerability, are empowered to create sustainable change, where the rights of marginalized groups are protected and where all will have unhindered access to services and opportunities to reach their full potential.
PEF aims to empower a strong civil society from the bottom up and supports people-to-people (P2P) engagement to create sustainable change between various community networks to enhance mutual understanding and co-operate with social change. PEF works to ensure that human rights are respected and achieved for all, with a focus on Thailand and other ASEAN countries. Based on the PEF bottom-up strategy, considering that local communities are the best experts on their own realities and experiences, PEF aims to build bridges between grassroots and vulnerable communities—often excluded from political processes—and national, regional, and global institutions and human rights mechanisms in order to ensure that their voices are meaningfully included.
