Description
The Older Women’s Network New South Wales (OWN NSW) was established in 2001. As the voice for older women in NSW, our mission is to empower women as they age. Our work is to identify the areas where older women are left behind and to work towards closing the gap.
As a peak body we are recognised and consulted at all government levels on such issues as violence and abuse, homelessness, transport, health and housing, as well as home, community and residential care.
We also run a variety of different groups that women can belong to and feel connected. Groups organise a wide range of activities and advocate on issues of concern to older women according to the aims and objectives defined by the members, in order to promote the broader rights, dignity and wellbeing of older women. There are currently 17 groups operating across NSW, including 7 wellness centres.
