We are the peak body for the outdoor pursuits that support health, wellbeing and skill development outcomes in NSW & the ACT, the organisation, (formerly known as ORIC), represents the outdoor community, advances outdoor standards, safety and practices, and fosters greater participation in the outdoors.
Outdoors NSW & ACT exists to support its members in getting more of our community active for their own health and wellbeing. Our industry saves $480 Million in the health care system every year by getting people active and reducing risks of health conditions brought about by inactivity.
We have been in existence since 1984, celebrating our 40th year next year.
Our organisation gets people active in 4 areas; Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Education, Adventure Tourism & Nature Therapy. Each providing connection with nature which is highly researched as an antidote for mental health challenges, vitamin D intakes and better regulated breathing. In addition the skills people learn in the outdoors include social skills, resilience and skills for life (that can't be taught in a classroom) .
Every year we search for ways to improve our reach and communications to audiences and provide them with opportunities to better instil better health outcomes for them. Beyond these physical advantages, our programs instil invaluable life skills such as social interaction, resilience, and character development—attributes that are often elusive within the confines of a classroom. As we continually strive to broaden our reach and enhance our communication efforts, we are unwavering in our commitment to providing opportunities that empower individuals to attain better health outcomes.
