Description

Open Flat Book Bindings is an organisation that evolved from the old Langlea printery back in approximately 1949. Those origins are a little sketchy but what is certain is the business being owned and operated by John and Sandra Hall from the early 1970's through to 1998 occupying 3 small factories in Hutchinson Street, St. Peters. In this time with staff varying between 10 and 20, the business specialised in comb binding, spiral binding, collating, calendar binding and drilling, dealing with all trade printers along the East Coast and some from interstate.

Wire-o binding (twin loop coated metal) was growing in popularity through the early 90's in Australia and replaced single metal spiral which is now done overseas. If your receptionist handed you a carbonless telephone message from a spirax notepad in the 90's, the book was bound by Open Flat.

img In 1998, Tom and Sue Barca took control of the business with trying times ahead for the printing industry due to the internet no-one was prepared for the ever changing future of the print and paper world as many printers and related companies fell on tough times. For Tom and Sue, losing spirax notebooks to Indonesia was also a heavy blow but with tenacity and integrity as well as competitive pricing and some location shifts, Open Flat remain the most widely used loose leaf binder for the print trade in New South Wales. We look forward to growing relationships with old and now clients in the future.

img Open Flat Book Bindings through many years of experience realise the importance and pride the printer takes in their work therefore understanding the safe and quick returns needed complete with our finishing touch. Tom is a hands on owner who treats every book like his own and has the ability to run an efficient factory with minimum spoilage.
