Description

Obayashi Corporation, founded in 1892, is one of the largest construction and infrastructure companies in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, with operations in 19 countries and regions and over 17,000 employees globally. While our legacy is rooted in world-class infrastructure delivery, our New Zealand office is now focused on developing and investing in clean energy projects, including green hydrogen, geothermal, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other renewables.

We co-founded Halcyon Power, a geothermal hydrogen joint venture in partnership with the Māori land organization Tuaropaki Trust, and launched New Zealand’s first commercial fast-refuelling station for hydrogen mobility in Auckland. In 2024, we acquired a 50% stake in Eastland Generation, a leading renewable energy company operating geothermal, hydro, and solar assets.

Our New Zealand journey began in 2011 with the delivery of the Waterview Connection Tunnel, a critical motorway link connecting Auckland Airport to the central city, and one of the country’s most technically complex infrastructure projects.

Today, our activities reflect Obayashi’s long-term commitment to the Sustainability Vision 2050, contributing to carbon neutrality through innovation, investment, and partnership.
