Description

The NSW Young Lawyers Criminal Law Committee is a diverse group of students and practitioners from around New South Wales who share an interest in criminal law. Our Committee aims to raise awareness and educate both the legal profession and the wider community about criminal law developments and issues.

Our members include judge's associates, tipstaves, law students and solicitors from private practice, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, the Office of the New South Wales Director of Public Prosecutions, the Legal Aid Commission, the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT), the Crown Solicitor's Office, the Judicial Commission, and the NSW Law Reform Commission.

Our activities focus on:

1. Support – connecting practitioners through face-to-face monthly meetings and email news, and holding events that help to develop the careers of aspiring practitioners.

2. Education – helping practitioners to understand criminal law and practice through publications and CLE seminars.

3. Policy work – preparing policy submissions to the Commonwealth and State Governments, and law reform agencies.

We meet on the last Wednesday of each month at 6.00pm at the The Law Society of New South Wales, 170 Phillip Street, Sydney.
