Description

Crime Stoppers is a community based program which encourages the public to share information about:

  • People wanted by police
  • Unsolved crimes and future crime that is being planned
  • People you know who have committed criminal offences where they have not been arrested
  • Suspicious or unusual activity

Crime Stoppers collects information which may help Police solve a crime. Some people prefer not to become involved in a police investigation and therefore may not share what they know about a crime directly with Police. Crime Stoppers welcomes that same crime information and the person providing it does not need to give his or her name.

Since Crime Stoppers began in NSW in 1989, more than 4,000 people have been arrested with more than 14,000 charges laid against them. From more than 530 000 contacts.

NSW Crime Stoppers (NSWCS) has achieved a 88% increase in the number of contacts received and then passed onto the NSW Police Force (NSWPF) Investigators since 2005. These contacts have increased from 29,825 in 2005, to 56,034 in 2011

In 2011 the cumulative effort resulted in 331 arrests, 1672 charges laid, drugs recovered/ seized to the value of M$25.8 and M$1.8 worth of property recovered.
