The Natural Health Science Foundation (NHSF) is a New York incorporated not for profit dedicated to encouraging research into natural health solutions and an appropriate role for evidence based solutions into mainstream health care.
The global natural medicines market, while large and fast growing, lacks evidence to support mainstream medical acceptance. For major health benefits to be achieved globally more evidence is needed to gain mainstream acceptance of these products and solutions.
Due to their natural sources such products are highly variable in their content and therefore their medicinal action. Clinical trials conducted on products which have been made in a reliable way are often used to justify claims on different products which appear to be made from the same ingredient. They are regulated in totally different ways around the world and it is extremely difficult for health care professionals and the public to identify these products and solutions which are made reliably and have specific evidence of their beneficial effects.
The Natural Health Science Foundation (NHSF) is an independent organisation which sets out to establish robust and credible advice around the evidence based use of natural medicine products. The NHSF has been established by researchers, clinicians, health professional associations, research companies and other interested stakeholders to
- encourage and guide more evidence for natural health products
- assist the public, health professionals and the system as a whole make an informed choice of products based on evidence
- assist in educating the industry and the public on the appropriate role of evidence based natural health products
