Biosphere reserves are sites recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve is one of 748 UNESCO-nominated sites located in 134 countries.

The share purpose of the international UNESCO Biosphere Reserve network is 'to inspire a positive future by connection people and nature today'.

We support the Western Port region by guiding the future of its UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. We act to connect people with nature. We study, document, protect and advocate for the unique environment of the Biosphere Reserve and its contribution to the prosperity of all of its inhabitants.

We lead, inspire and enable innovative approaches to biodiversity, conservation and sustainability to protect and secure the future of this special environment, the reserve and our way of life.

As an internationally significant Biosphere Reserve, we are proud stewards of its distinct assets and we document and articulate the threats posed to them.
