Up until now, English remains the dominant language in scientific literature. In the era of globalization and the rapid exchange of information and knowledge, publication in common English would be the best bet to increase research impact and visibility. Many systematic reviews and meta-analyses, which remain the epitome of high-level evidence-based medicine, more often than not, exclude publications in non-English languages. Although this is getting criticized for excluding minor languages which may omit important research findings, particularly from low-to-middle-income countries (LMICs), including many languages for literature review remains impractical, and language barrier is still one tough obstacle in research findings and knowledge dissemination. (Amano, González-Varo, and Sutherland 2016; Ransing et al. 2021)
Not only in research dissemination, the language barrier is still a challenge in all research cycles. Research subjects who cannot understand the common language are often marginalized due to language barriers in approaching potential subjects, obtaining informed consent, and creating translated and validated research tools. Currently, the scientific literature is still dominated by researchers who come from countries with English as the main/bilingual language or additional language. International organizations, such as WHO and the UN, publish documents in English or other dominant languages, making health information inaccessible to people with limited English abilities.
