The Melbourne Brain Centre Imaging Unit (MBCIU) provides advanced human imaging using PET/CT, ultra-high-field 7T MRI, and OPM-MEG. We support research trials investigating biological mechanisms, disease processes, and emerging treatments across a wide range of conditions.
Our imaging services extend beyond human studies to include animal specimens, fossils, museum artefacts, materials, and engineered components, enabling precise multimodal imaging for both academic and industry partners.
We work closely with researchers and clinicians to study normal physiology and a broad spectrum of disorders. Our team includes diagnostic imaging technologists and academics with expertise in imaging physics, neuroscience, engineering, and advanced image analysis. We have experience across anatomical, functional, and molecular imaging of the brain, eye and orbit, spine, and musculoskeletal system.
Our capabilities include fMRI, QSM, spectroscopy, neurovascular MRI, sodium MRI, CT, advanced molecular imaging, and OPM-MEG.
The MBCIU is supported by the National Imaging Facility, a National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) capability, and the University of Melbourne.
