The Monash Institute of Railway Technology (IRT), absed at Monash University in Victoria, is the premier track and vehicle railway research centre in Australia, and enjoys an international reputation for excellence in railway research. Monash IRT is one of the main technology service providers to heavy haul railway operations and leading mass transit railway systems, and provides a “one-stop” technology access point for the international railway industry.
IRT evolved from BHP’s Melbourne Research Laboratories (MRL) in January 2000, and together with its predecessor has been advancing the railway industry through technology for over 52 years.
With expertise across the railway asset including track, vehicle dynamics, component testing and analysis, instrumentation, data analytics, technology development and welding, Monash IRT can assist you to improve safety, reduce cost and improve operations.
We also work with the Monash University academic population to bring world class expertise in virtually any discipline to the railway sector. This included robotics, energy, human factors, accessibility and novel materials.
