Description
Institut Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik (IISIP) Jakarta didirikan tanggal 5 Desember 1953, dengan nama Perguruan Tinggi Djurnalistik (PTD), oleh Perhimpunan Mahasiswa Akademi Wartawan yang dipimpin oleh A.M. Hoeta Soehoet sebagai Ketua Umum.Tanggal 20 Februari 1956 dengan Surat Keputusan Menteri P.P. & K No. 12375/S ditetapkan, bahwa lulusan PTD hingga tingkat bakaloreat diakui dan diberi penghargaan setara dengan tamatan berijazah Bakaloreat pada Universitas Negeri dengan gelar "Bachelor of Arts (in Journalism & Social Sciences)".
Tanggal 4 Mei 1960 nama perguruan diubah menjadi Perguruan Tinggi Publisistik (PTP), untuk menyesuaikan dengan perkembangan ilmunya yang telah menjadi Ilmu Publisistik, yang tidak hanya mempelajari persuratkabaran dan jurnalistik saja, tetapi merupakan suatu ilmu yang berdiri sendiri, mengenai usaha manusia dalam menyampaikan isi pernyataannya kepada manusia lain.
Pada tahun ini juga PTP membuka tingkat sarjana. Sarjana publisistik yang pertama di Indonesia dihasilkan oleh Perguruan Tinggi Publisistik dalam ujian negara yang diselenggarakan tanggal 27 Juli 1962, yaitu Drs. A. M. Hoeta Soehoet. Tanggal 21 Oktober 1976, Menteri P & K mengganti nama PTP menjadi Sekolah Tinggi Publisistik (STP).Sejak tahun 1981 Sekolah Tinggi Publisistik (STP) mulai melaksanakan kegiatan akademik di kampus sendiri di Lenteng Agung, Jakarta Selatan.
