IAP is the oldest and largest urban and regional planning professional organization in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, established in 1971, with more than 2,500 members, ±1,500 of whom are LPJKN certified planners. IAP members are spread across all provinces in Indonesia, and 26 provincial administrations have been formed.

IAP functions as a forum for professional development, communication, research and development, consultation and coordination between regional and urban planning experts, as well as between regional and urban planning experts and other experts, community organizations, the private sector, government and the international community. In addition, IAP is also a forum to protect the interests of the wider community.
