Description

IMPECT (The Inter-Mountain Peoples Education and Culture in Thailand Association) is an indigenous-led, community-rooted organization dedicated to advancing the rights, self-determination, and sustainable development of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand.

Established in 1991 and officially registered in 1993, IMPECT brings together diverse indigenous ethnic groups—including Karen, Hmong, Mien, Lahu, Lisu, Akha, Lua, Tai Yai, Kachin, Dara-ang, Thin, Malabri, Khmu, and Bisu—into a collaborative network of over 3,000 individual and 12 tribal network members.

We work on both grassroots and policy levels to:

• Promote the rights and freedoms of Indigenous Peoples to determine their own way of life;
• Strengthen community organizations and inter-tribal networks

Support Indigenous-led development rooted in cultural identity and traditional knowledge;

• Advocate for inclusive policies that recognize and uphold Indigenous self-determination;
• Raise public awareness through Indigenous-led research and communication systems;

For over three decades, IMPECT has supported youth, women, elders, and communities in building strong, self-reliant organizations and alliances across Thailand and beyond. Through partnerships with national and international Indigenous networks, we continue to champion Indigenous voices in decision-making, conservation, education, and human rights.
